Photography is Art 05/12/2010

It has been a while since my last post but a lot has happened then. My photography has taken on a character of its own. I have photographed many events and have a few more booked. My passion is to capture the brief moments that express emotion. My desire is to have the viewers of my photographs gasp and say "WOW". Of course not all photographs will create this same feeling, however we as photographers strive to make every image a work of art. We do this by always being prepared and anticipation moments before they happen. this is not as easy as it sounds, things are happening all around us, we just have to be aware and have a keen eye to spot these precious moments.

Peaberrys Cafe 10/24/2009

I had one of my most challenging but enjoyable photography sessions. I had to shoot the interior of Peaberrys Cafe as well as product shots. I experimented with a table top photo studio and a neat softbox that fits on my Nikon flash unit. the studio came with a couple of high powered lights (will come in handy for many other things) and used them to help with the fill light. I was pretty happy with the result.

Christine & Brian Wedding--10.3.09 10/13/2009

I recently had the opportunity to assist Steph Stevens, a graduate of the Hallmark Institute of Photography, at the wedding of Christine and Brian. I want to thank her for allowing me to learn and shoot during this beautiful ceremony. I have found that many many professional photographers do not want to take on assistants for what ever reason. This shows the professionalism of Steph and I am grateful for it. I now know there are professional photographers out there that are not afraid to share their knowledge.  You can see the work of Steph Stevens at www.stephstevensphoto.com.

Some of the images I shot will be posted soon.

Shooting Hockey 09/04/2009

Traveling to Marlboro this weekend to shoot some more Hockey. I find the more experience you get the more natural the image will appear. Hockey is a very fast sport even when the young kids are playing. Anticipation is the key, almost like chess, you have to be a couple of steps of them at all times. If you wait the shot is gone and you can only wish to have it back again. The important this is not to dwell on what you have missed but to look ahead for the next shot.

Shots on goal make the most impressive shots and also are the most difficult. I find myself keying in on the goalie and listening for "SHOOT" and the crack of the puck. If you keep a keen eye on the goalie, he or she will give you a clue that a shot may be coming. I have been lucky enough to capture the puck on its way into the goalies glove.

First Time Blogging 08/28/2009

Well, this is my first time blogging, so I will give it a try. I recently purchased a Nikon D80 as an upgrade to my D40. I must say I see a significant difference in the overall operation of the Camera. It did take some getting used to with the expanded menu with the many different settings over the D40. Many of the menu item such as ISO and white balance can be changed from the camera body itself.

I find myself wanting to explore the cameras capabilities all the time. I am traveling to our family cottage in Portland Maine (Long Island Maine to be exact) to shoot the Portland Head Light. The weather is going to be a little suspect but may yield to some interesting lighting.
